Verna Mae Kelley, 90, of Edgewood, died at Edgewood Convalescent Home on Friday, Jan. 29, 2016.
She was born in Crossett, Ark., on May 25, 1925, the daughter of Archie and Mae (Peacock) Johnston. Verna was raised and educated in Collingston, La. On July 28, 1945, Verna was united in marriage to Vernon Lloyd Kelley in Arkansas. Six children were born to this union. Together they farmed in Clayton and Delaware counties in their early years. They retired near Arlington and lived at Yankee Settlement in Edgewood until entering the Edgewood Convalescent Home.
Verna enjoyed gardening, canning, baking and cooking, plus she loved spending time with her family.
Survivors include her six children, Bill (Ruth) Johnston of Carson City, Nev., Edgar (Linda) Kelley of Mission, Texas, Linda (John) Millard of Floral City, Fla., Joyce (Steve) Everett of Edgewood, Stephen (Lois) Kelley of Manchester and Shirley (Mark) Possehl of Grundy Center; 23 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Verna was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon, on Aug. 27, 2012; four siblings, A.J. Johnston, Essie Lee Waites, Clarice Pennington and Freeland Johnston; and three grandchildren, Chad Kelley, Jeffrey Kelley and Lance Millard.

Funeral services 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Manchester, with Pastor Mike Jackson officiating. Visitation: 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home, Manchester, and one hour before the service on Thursday. Interment: Oakland Cemetery, Manchester.
