Kim Henry, 47, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2018. A celebration of her life will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, at the IBEW 405 Hall, 1211 Wiley Blvd. SW, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, Jennifer (Andy) of St. Paul, Minn., and Javin Henry of Cedar Rapids; sisters, Kari Coleson of Fairfax and Kelli (Kirk) Postl of Ely; parents, Janice (Jerry) Everitt of Strawberry Point; her grandmother, Jean Taylor of Manchester; nieces and nephews, Riley, Gage and Tyson Postl and Chance and Taya Feuerhelm; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and caring friends.
She was preceded in death by her son, Cody Henry; her father, David Coleson; grandparents, Boyd and Erma Coleson and Howard Taylor; an aunt, Joan Andrews; and a cousin, Jacob Taylor.
Kim was born Aug. 24, 1971, in Cedar Rapids. She was a 1989 graduate of Prairie High School. She earned her bachelor's degree in education from Cornell College in 1993 and her master's from the University of Iowa in 2000. She married JJ Henry in 1993. They happily divorced some years later. They remained close friends.
Kim was a passionate and dedicated special education teacher in the Iowa City School District for the past 20 years. She also coached Special Olympics for several years.
She enjoyed playing softball and golf, riding her motorcycle Victor, and playing her drums. She loved her children and feline fur babies, Drake, Diablo and Trip.
