Justin G. Huber, 82, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, May 1, 2016, at Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Justin was born May 5, 1933, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of John and Mary Huber. He married Rita N. Stewart in 1954 in Cincinnati, Ohio. After graduating from Xavier University in Cincinnati, he served for two years in the U.S. Army at Fort Sill, Okla., from 1954 to 1956. The couple moved to Cedar Rapids in 1965, when Justin was recruited by Collins Radio (Rockwell Collins).
They were members of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Justin retired from Rockwell in 1995 and spent his retirement years reading to kindergartners at Pierce Elementary and tutoring adults in math at the Catherine McCauley Center. He was a voracious reader and loved to golf and go for long walks.
His family includes his three daughters, Monica (Keith) Lewis, Sarah (Tim) Dyck and Rachel (David) Rose. Justin and Rita had one son, John, who died at birth. Grandchildren include Isaiah Lewis (Rochester, Minn.), Justin Lewis (Kasson, Minn.), Adam Lewis (Minneapolis), Geoffrey Dyck (Cedar Rapids), Ian Dyck (Cedar Rapids), Katheryn (Michael) Flanigan (Independence), Miranda German (Lakewood Ranch, Fla.), Benjamin (Colleen) Severns (Minneapolis), Matt Rose (Cedar Rapids) and Megan Rose (Lakewood Ranch, Fla.). Justin has one brother, Kenneth (Mina) Huber (Yellow Springs, Ohio); and two sisters, Miriam (Jim) Cook (Corpus Cristi, Texas) and Gretchen Uno (Texarkana, Ark.).
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita; son, John; sister, Jean Andriot; and brother, David Huber.
Justin's desire to help those in need did not end in death. He donated his body to the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine for medical research.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, 315 18th Ave., Hiawatha, IA 52233 (www.mercycare.org/services/hospice) or St. Joseph's Indian School, 1301 N. Main St., Chamberlain, SD 57325 (www.saintjosephs@stjo.org).
