Frances J. Kolsrud,
65, of Atkins, formerly of Norway, died Monday, Jan. 11, 2016, at her home surrounded by her loving family following a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Funeral services for Frances will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. Sixth St., Vinton, with Chaplain Joe Cain of Hospice of Mercy officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Shellsburg. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. To honor her wishes, the casket will remain closed at all times. A memorial fund has been established.
Frances was born Nov. 18, 1950, in Independence, Kan., to Donovan and Helen (Salsbery) Young. She was united in marriage to Michael Kolsrud on Sept. 24, 1966, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. Frances worked as a sheet metal worker for Rockwell Collins for 42 years. She retired from Rockwell in 2012.
She loved spending time with her family and especially enjoyed boating, waterskiing and bowling.
Frances is survived by her husband, Michael of Atkins; her son, Scott (Deb Haefner) Kolsrud of Cedar Rapids; her three daughters, Michele Kolsrud of Cedar Rapids, Melissa (Brad) Madison of Norway and Stacy (Nathan) Stoneking of Hiawatha; her four grandchildren, Felicia, Kyle, Sebastien and Hunter; her four great-grandchildren, Emma, Corbin, Serena and Niko; stepgrandson, Michael Haefner; and her siblings, Donovan (Diana) Young Jr. of Swisher, Carl (Donna) Young of Cedar Rapids, Jerry (Sue) Young of Blairstown, Pam (Mike) Oshman of Mesa, Ariz., Gary (Tammy) Young of North Carolina and Lee Allen Young of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Bertha Hanson and Donna Young.
