Gordon "Gordy" Gott, 88,
of Marion, Iowa, passed away Monday, Nov. 13, 2017, at St. Luke's Hospice unit, Cedar Rapids. A gathering for family and friends to celebrate and honor his life will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion.
Gordon was born Dec. 9, 1928, in Ollie, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Wonderlich on Oct. 14, 1950. Gordon served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. He worked at Rockwell Collins for 35 years.
Gordon enjoyed biking. He rode in RAGBRAI several times as well as many other state rides. He organized a group of biking friends called the Renegades and enjoyed their friendships for many years. He also made many friends at the Rockwell Rec Center. Gordon enjoyed browsing thrift shops and garage sales finding treasures. He liked to spend time relaxing on the deck watching the birds and flowers.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; children, Nancy Gott of Las Vegas, Nev., Mike Gott (Ann Jacoby) of Marion and Barbara (Geoff) King of Manchester, Conn.; grandchildren, Aria Gott-Smith, Beau (Veronica) Gott-Smith, Corey (Pammela) Gott, Nichole Gott, Ellen King, Tom King and Caroline King; eight great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Betty M. Gott and Betty C. Gott; and brother-in-law, Lee Wonderlich.
Gordon was a kind and gentle man and enjoyed living a simple life. He was much loved by his family and will be greatly missed.
The family would like to thank Unity Point Hospice for their care.
