Daniels, Dorothea A.
Dorothea A. Daniels, 84, of Cedar Rapids, peacefully went to be with the Lord and reunited with the love of her life, Earl and many family members on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services: 2:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, at First Congregational Church, Cedar Rapids, with the Rev. Dr. William Jamison officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Dorothea Aileen Daniels was born on March 24, 1926, the daughter of Roy and Julia Revell Crosier. She was born on the farm in Milo Township, Delaware County, Iowa, five miles southwest of Delhi. She grew up there attending the Bay Country School through the eighth grade. She then attended Delhi High School graduating in 1943. She worked on the farm until the fall of 1947, when she attended the Electronic Radio and Television School in Omaha, Neb. In 1948, she came to Cedar Rapids and worked for McGladrey, Hansen, Dunn & Co. for five years, worked for a short time at Allis Chalmers and worked at Rockwell Collins for 29 years, retiring from there in 1987. She was united in marriage to Earl (Danny) S. Daniels on August 14, 1953, at the Golden Congregational Church in Ryan, Iowa. He preceded her in death on Oct. 7, 1993.
Surviving is a daughter, Patricia Henrich of Altoona; five grandchildren, Misty (Jerry) Hess of Crawford, Colo., Amber (Jory) Schaldecker of Cedar Rapids, Andrew Daniels of Phoenix, Ariz., George Rausch of San Diego, Calif., Jennifer Daniels of Arizona, and Terri Nickels of Cedar Rapids; and eight great-grandchildren, McKayla and Dalton Hess, Ashley, Marissa and Riley Schaldecker, Gabriel Nickels and Danielle and David Daniels and Dinah Thomas.
Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Shirley (Jack) Moody of Toddville, Norma (Merritt) Stark of Winona, Minn., Beverly (Harold) Beeskow of St. Paul, Minn., and Mary (Midge) Daniels of Winnemucca, Nev.; a brother-in-law, Harold (Cherie) Daniels of Dubuque; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death was her husband of 40 years, Earl; son, David Daniels; parents, Roy and Julia Crosier; brother, Lester Crosier; and a sister, Phyllis Crosier.
Also preceding her in death were sisters-in-law, Evelyn Daniels and Carol Hensel; and brothers-in-law, Robert Daniels, Paul A. Daniels and Richard Daniels.
Dorothea was a member of First Congregational Church for 55 years. She was active in Priscilla Circle Woman's Fellowship, the “Characters” group and published the Pilgrim Circle newsletter each week. She was a member of the H-3-1 Marine Honeys attending their yearly reunions around the country. She belonged to St. Luke's Spinal Support Group, Golden Warblers, Rockwell Mixed Chorus and the Fit Friends Forever class at the Rockwell Recreation Center. She also volunteered at the Visiting nurses Flu Shot Clinic each year through the RSVP.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.
