Reynolds, Lillian C. 'Lil'
Lillian C. “Lil” Reynolds, 94, of Cottage Grove Place, died there Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010, after a long illness. Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Friday. The Rev. Dr. Kay Slocum will officiate. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews, Mary Parker and husband Michael and Fred Schindler and Kay Moscrip, all of Cedar Rapids, Jean Esbaum and husband Denslow of Lowden, William Schindler of Hiawatha, Jane Howell of Garden Grove, Calif., and Richard Wheeler of Marion.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Everett and Frederick Schindler; and a sister, Evelyn Wheeler.
Lil was born Jan. 10, 1916, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Frederick and Ella (Kemmann) Schindler. She married Leland “Lee” Reynolds on Oct. 6, 1939, in Cedar Rapids. Lee died in 2004. Lillian worked at Rockwell-Collins for 39 years, retiring in 1979. During her time at Rockwell she served on the board of directors of its credit union for 14 years. She was a member of First Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of VFW Post 788 and American Legion Hanford Post 5 auxiliaries as well as volunteering over 5,700 hours at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Iowa City. Lil mended over 500 flags that fly in the downtown area on holidays. She made over 3,600 welcome kits that were given to the veterans being admitted to the VA Medical Center in Iowa City.
