Edwards, Harry Lee
Harry Lee Edwards, 71, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a long illness. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at Bethel AME Church, Cedar Rapids, by Pastor W. C. Perkins. Arrangements with Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his children, Kevin Edwards of Marion, and Kim (Leroy) Smith-Taylor in Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren, Morgen, Adam and Grant Edwards and Marques Smith and Renesa Smith-Taylor; great-granddaughter, Addyson Edwards; and brother, Leonard Durham (Dawn Dufkin).
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Frederick and Leslie Edwards.
Harry was born June 18, 1940, the son of Harry and Bernice (Jones) Edwards in Des Moines, Iowa. A graduate from Waterloo East High School in 1959, he worked at John Deere. Harry then moved to Cedar Rapids where he worked for IBM, Rockwell Collins, Rockwell Goss and Norand. He then moved to Bakersfield, Calif., where he started a ManPower Temp Service. Harry moved back to Cedar Rapids and worked at APAC, until he retired.
Harry enjoyed golfing, bowling and loved listening to live music. He was a past-member of Elk's Lodge in Waterloo and Cedar Rapids and Jaycee's in Cedar Rapids. Harry also was a member of the Bethel AME Church where he served as a lay person helping other church members.
