Darrell Clayton Aler, 70,
of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2018, at his home. Visitation: 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. A graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. at Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Darrell was born Sept. 24, 1948, the son of Leo and Helen (Crutchley) Aler. He graduated from Center Point High School and also attended Kirkwood Community College. Darrell served in the U.S. Navy. He married Janet Kane on March 17, 1973. She passed away on Oct. 9, 2014.
Darrell worked for Rockwell Collins and Rockwell Goss. After retirement, he loved picking up his grandchildren from school and spending time with them. Darrell was an outdoorsman. He loved to split wood, tinker with anything, and he especially enjoyed helping out at the Holub Farm. Darrell loved his 1969 Road Runner back in the day. Darrell was an avid reader, always looking to expand his knowledge.
Darrell is survived by his son, David (Lesa) Aler; grandchildren, Myles, Sydney and Spencer Aler; special nephew, Matt and Cathi Kane and their children; other nephews and nieces; and his beloved dog, Peg.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Helen Aler; wife, Janet; and two sisters.
The family would like to give a special thanks to everyone at the Holub Farm and all of his buddies who he worked with on the farm.
