Hykes, Glenn R.
Glenn R. Hykes, 87, of Hiawatha, died Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, after a short illness. Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Dr. Kay Slocum will officiate. Burial: 2 p.m. Monday at Conrad Cemetery in Conrad. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; two daughters, Carolyn (Dick) Devick of Gilman and Lucille (Konrad) Hesse of Germany; and two grandchildren, Nora and Albert.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jeannette.
Glenn was born Feb. 5, 1926, in Shiresman, Pa., the son of Paul and Dora Hykes. He married Mary J. Ames on Nov. 10, 1946, in Marshalltown. Glenn was an engineer at Rockwell-Collins and was on the team that developed GPS. He retired from Rockwell after more than 39 years of service.
As a youth Glenn was awarded the Eagle Scout badge and proudly served in the Army. He enjoyed model trains, fishing and was an all around handy man who could fix anything.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Memorial donations may be given to First Lutheran Church in Glenn's name.
