David Earl Allison, 53, of Cedar Rapids, died suddenly on Feb. 11, 2017, in Zion, Ill.
David was born Dec. 18, 1963, in Havana, Ill. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1984 to 1987 on active duty and in the Naval Reserves from 1987 to 1989.
He moved to Cedar Rapids and worked for Colonial Bakery and went to work in 1998 for Rockwell Collins after finishing his associate's degree at Kirkwood Community College.
He served as financial secretary for Local 1634 and was a member of Coralville's Safety and MRT teams at Rockwell Collins. David also served on the executive board for the Hawkeye Area Labor Council.
David had a passion for many things: riding his Harley, playing golf, his union, music, his Cubs, Blackhawks and Bears, and his dog, Bear.
David is survived by his wife, Jeri Ann Messer Allison, and son, Caleb Merrit-Allison, both of Cedar Rapids; his parents, William and Doris Allison, Havana, Ill.; two sisters, Karen Knoedler (Jim), Springville, Ill., and Linda Allison, Cedar Rapids; two nieces, Allison and Isabella; and three nephews, Skyler, Hunter and Brendan.
David was preceded in death by his grandmother, Kathleen Cranwill.
A service to begin his Celebration of Life Open House will be from noon to 4 p.m. March 4 at IBEW Local 405, 1211 Wiley Blvd. SW. The service will be officiated by Pastor Phil Rogers.
