Harris Harmsen, 76, died Sunday, April 1, 2018, in his home in Monticello. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 5, at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, where friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Interment will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery, Prairieburg, at a later date.

Survivors include his wife, Fran; three stepchildren, Chuck (Karen) Martin, Theresa (Yancey Bodenhofer) Martin and Pam (Berkley Varner) Troyer; his grandchildren, Charly, Abby and Jessica Martin and Nicholas Troyer, and his favorite granddaughter, Emily Troyer; his children, Laura (Tim) Wakefield, Lanette (Kevin) Paper and Loren (Jami) Harmsen; a sister, Ardith Nolan; and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Elwood; two sisters, Janet McCleery and Beverly Little; and a nephew, Wayne Harmsen.
Harris Herbert Harmsen was born Jan. 14, 1942, in Durant, Iowa. He was the son of Herbert and Florence Bangert Harmsen. Harris graduated from Davenport community schools. He farmed in Scott County for several years. Harris married Fran McNamara Martin in Delhi, in November 1978. The couple lived in the Monticello community and Harris worked at Bob Like Trucking, Energy Manufacturing and Rockwell Collins. He retired from Rockwell in 2000.
Harris loved working in his lawn and watching and feeding the birds that gathered. He also enjoyed going dancing with Fran and listening to music.
