Judy Lee Jensen, 64, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Sunday, Oct. 21, 2018, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Celebration of life services: 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Judy was born at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., on Oct. 8, 1954, the daughter of Raymond F. and Helen L. (Aspnes) Jensen. She graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1973 and the University of Iowa in 1978, with a B.A. in education and taught art in Tipton. In 1984, she returned to the University of Iowa to pursue a degree in industrial engineering. During this time she met her life partner, Bruce Walter, who she would be with for the next 34 years until her death. She completed her B.A. in industrial engineering in 1989 and was named an active lifetime member of Alpha Pi Mu Industrial Engineering Society. She went on to work at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids and Melbourne, Fla. Her career at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids and Melbourne spanned 25 years, where she worked in software quality assurance and became a manager in the Datalink and then SATCOM divisions.
Judy retired from Rockwell Collins in 2013. She pursued many hobbies in retirement including gardening, painting and cooking gourmet meals for friends and family during holiday celebrations. Christmas was her favorite holiday and those who attended her Christmas celebrations were never disappointed in the fun, food and beverages. She loved movies, flowers, art of all genres, but most of all her two cats, Max and Taylor, who miss her terribly.
Judy is survived by her life partner, Bruce Walter of Cedar Rapids; brother, David (Julie) Jensen of Marion; sister, Kristi Gibson of Wheaton, Ill.; and seven nephews.
Judy was preceded in death her parents, Helen and Raymond Jensen; and a sister, Roxanne.
Judy's family would like to thank the entire staff at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, especially nurses, Casey, Joel, Brenda, Teresa and Cassi for their comfort and care given to Judy.
