John Kennard Hagge died Oct. 19, 2015, in his home in Sun City Center, Fla., due to complications of brain cancer. His funeral will be at St. Theodore's Church, with burial in St. Theodore's Cemetery, Laporte, Minn., on Oct. 31.
He was born Feb. 2, 1943, in Ames, Iowa, to Arlo and Vera (Kennard) Hagge. He graduated from Ames High and earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees in mechanical engineering from Iowa State Uni-versity. He served two years as a physics teacher in the Peace Corps in Kenya, Africa. He worked for Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids for 32 years, retiring in 2002. He then worked for Physical Sciences Inc. in Andover, Mass., from 2002 to 2004.
He received excellence awards from Rockwell, IEEE and the U.S. Navy, and was named a Rockwell Engineer of the Year. He authored over 40 technical papers, over 90 internal technical reports for Rockwell, various reports for Physical Sciences Inc., and five chapters in internationally recognized handbooks.
He served as a consultant on electronics packaging to the U.S. Air Force and National Science Foundation and as an invited lecturer in various electronics packaging courses in the U.S. and Europe. He was awarded three patents.
John served in many volunteer positions in his church and in Boy Scouts. His retirement years were spent on Kabekona Lake, Minn., and Sun City Center, Fla. He enjoyed collecting and researching stamps, writing about his interests, traveling to all 50 states and many foreign countries, and entertaining family and friends with an endless supply of puns.
Loving father and spouse, John is survived by his wife, Judith (Rushton) Hagge; his children, Dr. Tobias Hagge (Pauline Schafer) of Richland, Wash., Dr. Mathew (Michelle) Hagge of Ames, Dr. Emily Petersen, MD, of Atlanta, Ga., and Adam Hagge, presently in graduate school in Shenzhen, China; and grandson, Arthur Hagge of Richland, Wash. He also is survived by his siblings, David (Ann) Hagge, Port Charlotte, Fla., Nancy (Richard) Woodley, Dike, Iowa, Mary (Randall) Ketelsen, Englewood, Fla., and Christine (Steven) Pace, Cedar Rapids.
