Doris Mae Rockwell Conner, 82, died Feb. 24, 2016.
She was born Jan. 5, 1934, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, to Harry William Rockwell and LaRue Everhart Rockwell. Doris attended schools in Mahaska County, as well as elementary schools in Oskaloosa, Fremont and Sigourney. She graduated from Sigourney High School in 1951. She attended Iowa Wesleyan College, receiving a two-year teaching certificate, and then a B.A. degree from William Penn College, with graduate work at University of Iowa. She taught in Hedrick, Webster and for over 30 years in Sigourney. On Aug. 2, 1953, she married Hobart Darrell Conner.
Doris served on the library board, Dumont Museum board, public health advisory board and volunteered at the Main Street office and Keokuk County Historical Society. She was a member of the B.E. bridge club since 1970, Retired School Personnel, Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, United Methodist Church and Delta Kappa Gamma.
Her hobbies included traveling, reading, genealogy, her family, the Red Hat Society and helping with MotorIoway.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Drew Eric Conner; three sisters, Jean LaRue Danner, Frances Joan Westrem and Phyllis Joy Baker; and two brothers, Ned William Rockwell and infant Steven Lynn Rockwell.
She is survived by her husband, Darrell; children, Dirk Alan (SuzAnn) Conner of Fairbank, Darci Anne Conner Farnum of Estherville and Dustin Dee Conner of Wellman; four grandchildren Luke Ellis (Bethany) Conner, Ethan William Conner and Graye Conner Farnum and fiancee, Payton David Farnum; one great- grandchild, Chelsea Saphira Conner; and one brother, Ted William Rockwell.
Celebration of Life: 3 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Hall, Sigourney. Visitation: 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Hall.
A memorial fund has been established.
