Nola Nadine Norton
NOLA NADINE NORTON
Cedar Rapids
Nola Nadine Norton, 92, of Cedar Rapids, passed away at her home Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021. Per her request and due to COVID-19, there will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held at a later date to be determined at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Nadine was born Sept. 16, 1928, in Pattonsburg, Mo., the daughter of Fred and Flora Wolverton. She also lived in Bloomfield, Iowa, and Stanberry, Mo., before moving to Cedar Rapids, where she met Richard Norton. They were married Sept. 5, 1947, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They remained so for 71 years until Richard's passing in 2018.
Although short in stature, Nadine was never short on spunk or stubbornness. Always up for having fun, she and Richard enjoyed many years spent with friends playing cards, golfing, and being involved with the Marion American Legion. She especially enjoyed all the Branson trips with their Legion friends. She last worked at the Ellis Park golf pro shop. She and Richard were members of the Kenwood Park Presbyterian Church and then First Presbyterian Church in Marion. She also was a longtime member of the Marion Legion Auxiliary. And, oh yes, she enjoyed her Budweiser, so when having your next cold beverage hoist it skyward to her as a toast! Nadine was a loving and caring wife, mother, grams, and great-grams. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Surviving are a son, David (Diane) Norton of Toddville; grandson, Derek (Laura); great-grandchildren, Samantha and Jack, all of Smyrna, Ga., and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard; and all seven of her siblings, Onie, Robert, James, Donald, Ruth, Faye and Evelyn.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her honor to the American Legion Auxiliary, 625 31st St., Marion, IA 52302.
