David E. Godwin, 66, passed away Aug. 31, 2015, at VA Health Care System in Iowa City following a courageous battle with cancer.
Dave was born May 11, 1949, in Wapello, Iowa, the oldest of five children to Lois and Eugene Godwin. Dave was preceded in death by his brother, Scott Godwin, and his parents.
Dave spent the majority of his career as an electrician in the Quad Cities. His biggest accomplishment was raising his seven children alongside his wife of 37 years.
Dave enjoyed the simple things in life: spending time with his family, fishing, hunting, boat rides, his dogs, and riding his custom Harley Davidson.
Dave served in the Army during the Vietnam War with the 23rd Infantry Division, receiving many awards, including a Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; two sons, Bruce (Alison) Godwin and Bradley (Terri) Godwin; five daughters, Jessica (Jarin) Kratzberg, Amy (Andrew) Aarhus, Christy (Josh) Enloe, Molly (Jeremiah) Harris and Kaitlyn Godwin. Dave was a wonderful grandfather to 10 grandchildren. On Dave's side of the family he is survived by two brothers, John Godwin and Steve (Mary) Godwin; and a sister, Jan (Richard) Brannen; along with aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and a wonderful support of family and friends who are planning a private celebration of life for Dave.
Donations in memory of Dave Godwin may be made to www.firstgiving.com/ fundraiser/davegodwin/ KeeptheMemoryAlive to help raise money for research and awareness of this tragic cancer in hopes that future generations can have the opportunity to fight.
