Just months into his new job as the administrator of the Kalamazoo County, Mich., government, former Johnson County Supervisor Terrence Neuzil has been placed on paid leave.
A news release Thursday from Kalamazoo County Corporate Counsel Thom Canny said the county was following 'policies and procedures to address personnel matters.”
Neuzil was hired for the county administrator position in November.
The release does not provide details on when or why Neuzil was placed on leave.
'The county is following its policies and procedures to address personnel matters,” the release states. 'In order to protect the rights of all persons involved in any personnel matters, the county does not comment, or answer questions, prior to the conclusion of the county's process.”
When reached by phone, Canny declined to provide additional details.
'I'm not going to answer any questions,” Canny said. 'It's a county policy not to talk about employee issues.”
Neuzil, a Democrat who served on the Johnson County Board of Supervisors from 2001 to the end of 2015, did not return calls Thursday.
The salary range for the county administrator position was to be between $130,000 and $150,000, according to the Kalamazoo County job posting last year.
As a Johnson County supervisor, Neuzil's salary for fiscal year 2016 would have been less than $60,000.
None of the 11 members of the Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners were immediately available for comment Thursday, except for District 6 Commissioner Jeff Heppler, who referred The Gazette to the news release.
