James Joseph Conway, 87, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, March 24, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Family will greet friends from noon to 1:40 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, with a service following at 2 p.m. at St. Wenceslaus Church. Burial: St. John's Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his daughter, Marsha (Robert) Williams of Watertown, Tenn.; son, Rodney (Linda) Tweedt of Anthony, N.M.; five grandchildren, John Tweedt and Suzette Russell, both of Sunland Park, N.M., Anessa (Bill) Poole of Lebanon, Tenn., Jeromy (Jen) Lowry Garland and Robert (Tina) Lowry, both of Garland, Texas; nine great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and brother, Donald (Vera) Conway of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Betty in 2001.
James was born Aug. 23, 1928, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, son of Robert and Tillie (Sharmek) Conway. He graduated from Wilson High School. On March 2, 1977, James married Betty Jean Hamilton; she died in 2001. He worked for Kings Material as a truck driver. James enjoyed camping and the couple's trips to the beaches in Florida.
