Rowbotham, Alan
Alan Rowbotham, 89, of Sheffield, England and Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Memorial services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, at Christ Episcopal Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Martha Rogers. Arrangements by Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his son, Peter (Sue) Rowbotham of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Pamela (Steve) Williams; brothers, Jack Rowbotham and John (Marilyn) Rowbotham; and sister, Muriel Tolley, all of England; five grandchildren, Helen (Andrew) Jones, Karen (boyfriend, Bernard) Williams, Katie (Curt) Readel, Emma (fiance, Josh) Rowbotham and Matthew (girlfriend, Hadley) Rowbotham; and two great-grandchildren, Jarod and Cayden.
Alan was born Nov. 14, 1922, in England, the son of Charles and Dora (Thacker) Rowbotham. He was a navigator/bomb aimer with the Royal Air Force Pathfinders, flying on Lancaster's during World War II. Alan worked as an engineer and product manager for Richard Brothers.
He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.
He traveled extensively in the United States and leaves behind many close friends both here and in England. Many will remember his favorite saying, “It's a good day.”
The family extends a sincere thank you to Alan's close friend, Dr. Ronald Reider, and his staff and also Mercy ICC, especially nurses Rachael and Ann for their compassionate care.
