Howell, John E.
John E. Howell, 69, of Hazleton, died Thursday morning, Nov. 28, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
John was born Nov. 19, 1944, in Meadville, Pa., the son of Grover C. and Mary Alice (Clark) Howell. He was raised in the Meadville area and later moved to Solon, Iowa, living in the area until moving to the Independence/Hazleton area in 1997. John was employed as a communication engineer with the CCE Co. in Cedar Rapids before his retirement.
On Aug. 29, 1988, John and the former Linda L. Goldsworth were united in marriage in Memphis, Mo.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; six children, Randy (Chris) Howell, Sutliff, Kim (Marty) Williams, Mount Vernon, Connie (Will) Sproston, Sutliff, Sherri Santiago, Cedar Rapids, Michelle Jorgerson, Sutliff, and Stephanie (Doug) Kamberling, Lisbon; three stepchildren, Tom (Jenny) Morris, Independence, Tammy (Greg) Miller, Coggon, and Brian (Dianna) Morris, Rowley; 25 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Penny Rodgers, Chambridge Springs, Pa., and Donna Boyles, Texas; and two brothers, Mark Howell and Terry Howell, both in Meadville, Pa.
The family will commemorate John's life with a reception from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, at Rowley Community Center in Rowley.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the John E. Howell Memorial Fund, c/o Veridian Credit Union, 1900 Third Ave. SE, Independence, IA 50644.
The Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence is assisting the family with arrangements.
