John Vincent Walsh, 67, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, June 20, 2016, at the Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha. Funeral service: 3 p.m. Saturday, June 25, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 24, at Cedar Memorial Chapel Stateroom.
John was born May 3, 1949, the son of Joseph and Mary (McCarthy) Walsh, in Boston, Mass. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. John worked for Acro Manufacturing Corp. as a machinist from 2004 to 2011. On April 10, 1981, he was married to Ruth Williams. John greatly enjoyed riding with the Combat Veteran Motorcycle Association, where he served as the state quarter master for two and a half years. He was a band member of several bands over the last 25 years, where he played bass. John was also big on camping with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Walsh; daughter, Casey (Steve Voyer) Mason; stepchildren, Mary (Scott Carson) Blackburn and Patrick (Nicole Walters) Blackburn; six grandchildren, Stan Jr., Breanne, Brandon, Alexies, Xean and Ivy; one great-grandchild, Wyatt; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marybeth Clark; and stepfather, Howard Rossbach.
