Janice Williams, 81, of Iowa City, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2017, from complications of a fall at her home.
A celebration of Janice's life will be held Sunday, Aug. 20, from 3 to 6 p.m. at The Kirkwood Room, 515 Kirkwood Ave., Iowa City.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice, the Food Bank at the Iowa City Crisis Center, Planned Parenthood or the Unitarian Universalist Society of Iowa City.
Janice was born Nov. 1, 1935, in Hobart, Okla., the daughter of John "Bake" and Mary Nel (Hunter) Harbour. She attended the University of Oklahoma and worked as the editor for a local newspaper in Oklahoma.
Janice married J.L. "Jim" Williams on May 3, 1959, in Hobart, Okla. As Jim's career progressed, she raised her three sons and kept the family home. Janice and Jim moved to Iowa City in 1977. Janice became very active in the community, and was a mentor to many people and helped them improve their lives.
Janice is survived by her three sons, Jim Williams (Sue) of Lone Tree, Patrick Williams (Akiko Iwamoto) of Seattle, Wash., and David Williams (Allison) of Minneapolis, Minn.; grandchildren, Andrew (Amanda) of Los Angeles, and Katya and Max, both of Minneapolis; several nieces and nephews; and brothers- and sister-in-law, John Harbour of Oklahoma City, Okla., Jim Harbour of Hobart, Okla., and Jeff (Nancy) of Santa Fe, N.M.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Jim, in February of this year.
