RAYMOND WILLIAMS Newhall Raymond A. Williams, 99, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, at St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall, with the Rev. Steven Rempfer officiating. Interment will be at St. Stephen's Cemetery in Atkins. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the church in Newhall. A memorial fund has been established for St. John Lutheran Church. Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton is in charge of arrangements. Raymond was born Nov. 8, 1915, in rural Newhall, the son of John and Emma (Kerkman) Williams. He married Jean Kell on Feb. 27, 1943, at St. Stephen's Lutheran Parsonage in Atkins. Jean preceded Ray in death on Nov. 3, 2009. Ray farmed in the Newhall area and worked as a machinist at Midland Forge, retiring in 1981. Ray was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall, the Leisure Club and enjoyed membership in several card clubs. He is survived by his daughters, Ruth (Larry) Shannon of Hiawatha and Kay Williams of Dumfries, Va.; three grandchildren, Roberta L. (Shawn) Goodman of Baxter Springs, Kan., John M. Shannon of Hiawatha and Jackie A. (Jamie) Wagner of Cedar Rapids; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and his wife, Jean, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Fair; three brothers, Clarence, Harold and Elmer Williams; and his sister, Elsie Knaack.
