Ruth G. Martwig, 92, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully at home on May 13, 2017, under UnityPoint Hospice of Cedar Rapids.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held in the chapel at St. Paul's United Methodist Church on Tuesday, May 23, at 5:30 p.m.
Ruth was born Nov. 3, 1924, to Burt and Lela Ross in Ozark, Ark. The eldest of four children, two brothers, Bill and Tommy, and a sister, Wanda, all preceded her in death. On Valentine's Day 1944, she married Sgt. Arthur E. Martwig of Strawberry Point, Iowa. They had two children, Larry and Jerry.
She was preceded in death by her husband and youngest son, Jerry.
Surviving are her oldest son, Larry and wife Marva; grandchildren, Jason, Brent and Sara Tweedie; and great-grandchildren, Carter, Izak, Sean and Mariel Tweedie.
Ruth was a 1958 graduate of Coe College and became active in business and politics, her two majors. She was active in youth activities at St. Paul's Church and sang in the choir. She was a member of Sweet Adeline's and active with University Women, a true southern lady in every sense.
