DES MOINES - A local party volunteer experienced a medical emergency and was given CPR by a candidate for governor, perhaps saving the volunteer's life, during a fundraising event Saturday, the county party chairman said.
Witnesses said the volunteer may have been choking. Andy McGuire, a former physician and a Democratic candidate for governor, administered CPR.
The woman was taken by stretcher to an ambulance.
Sean Bagniewski, chairman of the Polk County Democrats, told the event crowd that after being taken to the ambulance, the volunteer was breathing. He said McGuire may have saved the volunteer's life.
