Foul play is not suspected in the death of a Cedar Rapids man who fell 21 stories from an apartment this morning, police said.
Michael Swenson, 42, fell from the 21st floor of Cedar River Tower, 100 First St. NE, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A vigil for Swenson is scheduled Tuesday from 8-11 p.m. at the small park across from the Cedar River Tower.
A 911 caller at 1:31 a.m. reported hearing a loud noise and then discovered a body on the balcony of the apartment tower, according to police Sgt. Cristy Hamblin.
Swenson lived on the 21st floor of the apartment building, police said. Hamblin said evidence suggests the death was not a suicide attempt, and no foul play is suspected.
"Right now, it looks like it was accidental," Hamblin said.
One other person was either present at the time of the fall, or had just left, she said.
There is no balcony on Swenson's unit. Hamblin said toxicology reports will be completed to "see if there was something else going on."
Swenson was not married but did have relatives in Eastern Iowa, Hamblin said.
An investigation is continuing.
