John William Feldman, 68, passed away of cancer at his home in Cedar Rapids on Thursday, March 5, 2015. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel, 1221 First Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at the chapel. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Iowa City.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to
St. Luke's Hospice, Cedar Rapids.
John was born July 17, 1946, to Gertrude Harbit and Wilfred Feldman at West Liberty, Iowa. He graduated from West Liberty High School in May 1954. Working in microwave radio, he served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1968 and in Vietnam in 1967. He worked as a lineman and later as a central office technician for U.S. West, later Quest, from 1970 to 2007. He married Marilyn Sue Weber on Jan. 6, 1972, in Iowa City. She died Sept. 17, 1985. Three children were born to that marriage, Annette, Nick and Molly.
John married Fenming Qin in Nanning, China, on Sept. 21, 2005. She was able to join him in the U.S. in 2007.
John enjoyed fishing and hunting and especially his children and grandchildren. Ming and John were able to travel some and enjoy many events not possible in China.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Ming; stepson, Ting Gan of Shanghai, China; his children, Annette Marie, Nicholas Jay and Molly Margot of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Conrad Caldwell III and Malaika Harmony Caldwell of Cedar Rapids; siblings, Mrs. Patricia Hinz of Moberly, Mo., Nancy (Jerome) Kellner of Livermore, Iowa, James (Willa) Feldman of East Moline, Ill., Rita (Dave) Brcka of Waukee and Marie Wheaton of Algona; and many nieces and nephews.
