Theodore Arthur Schuler, 85, of Waterloo, Iowa, died of natural causes Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, Christ Lutheran Church, Waterloo, in auspices of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Burial: Garden of Memories, Waterloo. Military rights conducted by Evansdale AMVETS Post 31 and Waterloo AMVETS Post 31. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories and one hour prior to services Saturday. Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, Waterloo,
is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials may be directed to the Immanuel Lutheran Building Fund or Disabled American Veterans.

Theodore Arthur Schuler was born on Aug. 4, 1929, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Arthur and Dorothy (Currant) Schuler. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1946 to 1949 in Alaska. Ted was united in marriage to Helen Miller on June 29, 1951, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waterloo; Helen preceded him in death on March 10, 2008. He was a carpenter with Local 1835 and taught many apprentices.
Ted loved Waterloo. He served on many boards and was involved with numerous community projects. He was the director of building and grounds at Hawkeye Community College. Ted helped with volunteer work building churches and community buildings in Waterloo. He was a union business agent for the Carpenters Local 1835 and the Teamsters Union 844. He retired from Hawkeye Community College on Feb. 29, 1996. Ted was very involved with Immanuel and Christ Lutheran Churches.
Ted is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen; and a sister, Mary Killinger. Ted is survived by a son, Lee Schuler of Aurora, Ill.; a daughter, Janice (David) Chung of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Carl (Shirley) Schuler of Waterloo and Jerry (Judith) Schuler of Bristol, Va.; three sisters, Sally Spaulding of Evansdale, Betty Webb of New Bedford, Mass., and Jean Demuth of Waterloo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
