Boettcher, Paul E.
Paul E. Boettcher, 64, of Cedar Rapids, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Friends may visit from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 6, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Shueyville United Methodist Church, Shueyville, by the Rev. Sheryll Untiedt.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Jan (Pyle); two sons, Chris (Beth), and grandchildren, Isaac, Paige and Claire, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Brock (Kristen) of Loveland, Colo.; mother, Ruth Boettcher of Omaha, Neb.; sister, Jan Hannasch (George) of Omaha, Neb.; in-laws, Joan Kibler (Steven) of Loveland, Colo., and Richard Pyle (Shari) of Prior Lake, Minn.; five nieces; and two nephews.
Paul was preceded in death by his father, the Rev. Alvin Boettcher; and his mother- and father-in-law, Harold and Virginia Pyle.
The son of Alvin and Ruth (Beecher) Boettcher, Paul was born March 24, 1946, in Waterloo, Iowa. He was a salesman and published Hawkeye Recruiting Notebook for many years. His last few years were filled with family, travel, and following his beloved Hawkeyes. Paul was instrumental in getting TV coverage for high school sports in Cedar Rapids. He started with a small group of fathers in the College Community school district video taping games and showing them on the local cable channels. As a coach, he gave every child an opportunity to play and had a huge heart for kids.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in Paul's memory to the Prairie School Foundation Scholarship Fund.
