Edwin Lester Wagner, 79, of rural Alburnett, passed away Monday, Jan. 25, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a battle with pneumonia. Services: 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 1, at St. John's Lutheran
Church, Center Point. Visitation: 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point. Burial: Lafayette Cemetery.
Ed was born May 29, 1936, in Ulen, Minn., son of Wilbur and Alice Wagner. He married Mavis Knutson on Feb. 15, 1958, in Twin Valley, Minn. He graduated from high school in Ulen in 1954. After graduation, he served in the Army from 1954 to 1956. After his time in the service, he graduated from North Dakota State School of Science in 1959. In 1959, they moved to Iowa, where he worked at Rockwell Collins from June 1959 until he retired in December 1991.
Ed was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, American Legion Wapsie Post 421 in Central City and lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1223 in Dilworth, Minn.
Survivors include four daughters, Larae Wagner of Cedar Rapids, Leann (Ken) Schreiber of Bemidji, Minn., Lisa Wagner (John Brady) of Alburnett and Lynette Wagner (Scott Johnson) of Albertville, Minn.; son, Edward Wagner of Alburnett; grandchildren, Nate and Ben Schreiber and Ashley and Jacob Holsinger; brother, Lowell of Arizona; five sisters, Doris Opsahl of Moorehead, Minn., Evelyn (Loren) Halstad of Fertile, Minn., Kathy (Duane) Fuglie of Ulen, Minn., Bonnie (Bo) Boehning of Fargo, N.D., and Marlene Stern of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and special friend, Dorothy Dee.
He was preceded in death by parents; two brothers, Raymond and Leroy; and wife, Mavis, of 46 years.
Ed grew up farming and enjoyed fixing anything that broke. He was a mechanic in his spare time. Ed enjoyed going to garage and auction sales, hunting, fishing, traveling and spending time with his family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to American Legion Post 421 in Central City.
