CEDAR RAPIDS - A 29-year-old Cedar Rapids man was sentenced to 31 years in federal prison earlier this week for robbing four banks in 2014.
Javon Dockery pleaded guilty last October to four counts of bank robbery and one count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence. He robbed a U.S. Bank branch and a Guaranty Bank branch twice between April and June 2014.
During the plea last year, Dockery admitted to robbing the U.S. Bank branch at 129 16th Ave. SW, of $5,186 on April 30 and $10,327 on June 26. He displayed a semi-automatic handgun when he demanded money in the June 26 robbery.
Dockery also admitted to robbing the Guaranty Bank branch at 2711 Bever Ave. SE, of $7,113 on May 16 and $13,633 on May 29.
U. S. District Chief Judge Linda Reade ordered Dockery to pay $25,935 in restitution to the banks.
The sentencing hearing started last month but was postponed because the prosecutor had received information of a fight involving Dockery and another inmate or inmates that led to a stabbing with a sharpened toothbrush.
Dockery wasn't charged in state court and no extra time was added to his sentencing for this incident.
Dockery's girlfriend, Bria Daudinot, 21, of Cedar Rapids, was also convicted in the crime and pleaded guilty last year to aiding and abetting in the bank robbery. She was the getaway driver in the robberies and was sentenced to eight years in prison.
