A Cedar Rapids man was recently charged for passing off damaged phones as new and getting a full refund from a Wal-Mart store in 2013.
Jonathan A. Clifton, 34, was charged June 6, with second-degree theft. He is accused of returning damaged phones Sept. 16, 2013, which he packaged so they appeared to be in new, unopened condition, to Wal-Mart, 2645 Blairs Ferry Road NE, for a full refund, according to a criminal complaint. The refund was more than $1,000.
Clifton's business was featured Thursday in The Gazette's 'My Biz.”
