Stan Hanzelka, 87, of
Atkins, formerly of Cedar
Rapids, passed away Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018, at Mercy
Medical Center. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m.
Saturday, March 3, at St. Jude Catholic Church followed by Mass at 10 a.m. Burial
immediately following Mass at St. Joseph Cemetery in
Cedar Rapids. A lunch will
follow after the burial at St. Jude Catholic Church.
Stan was born and raised in Chelsea, Iowa. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War as a radio and
radar maintenance tech. After returning from the Air Force, he married Jane Upah. They were married on
July 11, 1953. Stan worked at W.R. Grace, Cryovac
Division, and retired after 40 years. He enjoyed camping, playing cards and fixing anything that was broken.
He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus (3rd & 4th Degree), and the
American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Hanzelka; children, Denise Kintzel of Cedar Rapids, Terry (Vern) Barlow of Coos Bay, Ore., Frank (Kat) Hanzelka of Kalispell, Mont., Chris (Jodie) Hanzelka of Cedar Rapids, Sandy (Joe) Visek of Maricopa, Ariz., Geri (Paul) David of Atkins and Brian (Leslie) Hanzelka of Olatha, Kan.; as well as 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his siblings, Cy Hanzelka of Ogden, Utah, Val Hanzelka of Marshalltown and Mary (Dan) Hanzelka-Leary of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by siblings, Marcella Hanzelka, Bernadette Spurgeon, Norbert Hanzelka and Francis Hanzelka (infant brother).
