Brendan Edward Dillon, 72, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2014, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo.
He was born May 8, 1942, in Ballydesmond, Co. Cork, Ireland, son of Patrick and Brigid Joyce Dillon. He married Mary Ann DeJaeger on Jan. 29, 1972, in Freeport Grand Bahamas.
Brendan was a history teacher in Cork City, London, Bahamas, Regis High School in Cedar Rapids, Westwood High School and Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood, Mass., and Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Alanna Marie (Chris) Suda of Springfield, Va.; a granddaughter, Grace Suda; three brothers, David (Nellie) of Galway, Ireland, Bernard (Kathleen) of Dublin, Ireland, and Patrick (Lucy) of New Ross, Ireland; and two sisters, Síle (Jim) O'Leary of Kennebunk, Maine, and Joan Dillon of Rutherford, N.J.
He was preceded in death by a son, Sean Dillon, and a brother, John.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Edward Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, both in Waterloo. Public visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, Waterloo, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation will also be an hour before services on Saturday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to UNICEF or OXFAM.
