Gary Lee O'Leary, 69, died peacefully Tuesday,
July 24, 2018, at home.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, Aug. 11, at 1:30 p.m. at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City. Father Gary Beckman will officiate. The family will greet friends from noon to 1:30 p.m. prior to the service. Burial with military honors will be at Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or to Disabled Veterans National Foundation.
Gary was born Oct. 11, 1948, in Coralville, the son of Roy and Esther (Niemeyer) O'Leary. On Oct. 12, 1979, Gary married Cynthia Rogers. Gary served in the
U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970.
He was a member of the Coralville American Legion and enjoyed time spent hunting, fishing and camping.
Gary is survived by his wife, Cindy; four sons, Garry (Michelle) and Tim, both of Tipton, Jamie (Jessica Kelso) of Kalona and Jesse of Cedar Rapids; six granddaughters, McKenna, Madison, Margaret, Montanna, Maren and Emma; four brothers and five sisters; numerous nieces and nephews; and extended family.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Michael; and brother, Ralph Niemeyer.
