Stratton, Neil 'Nico' Christopher
Neil “Nico” Christopher Stratton died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013, at home following a sudden illness. He was 51 years old.
He was born Dec. 23, 1961. Although he called Iowa home his entire life, Neil loved traveling all across the Midwest exploring its rich history by searching for ancient arrowheads and artifacts from the pioneer days.
Neil was an adventurer. Storm chasing and prospecting for gold out West were among his exciting pursuits. He was an avid outdoorsman, passionate about snowmobiling and riding his ATV.
A nature and animal lover, he was ardently devoted to the pets he had throughout his life, especially his dog, Beth, and his cat, Cali.
His independent spirit was admired by all who knew him. His simple ways belied his great brilliance and wit.
He was a caring friend, brother and son, and will be missed more than anyone could ever imagine.
Neil is survived by his mother, Norma Jeanne of Cedar Rapids; his sister, Cami of Boston, Mass.; his sister, Christine of Cedar Rapids; his brother, Mark of Swisher; a niece, Samantha; nephews, Cody, Flint and Chase; his aunt and uncle, Betty and Bob Benz of Vacaville, Calif.; and his uncle, David Stratton of Vacaville, Calif.
Neil is also survived by many close friends, including Brian Carlson, Bob Krahmer, John Bulman, Dennis Dunkel, Dan Sorg, Rusty Patterson, Mitch McGrath and Tim “Lightbulb” Snell, with whom he spent much time and thought of as brothers.
Family members who predeceased Neil include his father, Paul E. Stratton; and sister, Carol Stratton McKee.
Neil was employed by Kinze Manufacturing in Williamsburg.
A memorial service is being planned for a later date.
Teahen Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids is caring for Neil's family.
