A hundred Hawkeye homecomings? That's a lot

Saturday's Indiana-Iowa game will be the eighth major-college football contest I've covered this season, and none involved a team currently in Associated Press' Top 25.

That realization sent all sorts of numbers spinning in my mind. Or, more honestly, it had nothing to do with this column, a collection of unrelated factoids that have nothing to do with collective thought .

0 - Indiana has zero wins against FBS teams this season.

0-1 - The Big Ten's record against the Big 12. (Iowa State beat Iowa)

10-1 - The Big Ten's record against the Mid-American Conference. (Ball State beat Indiana)

1 - One crowd of more than 42,261 that have attended Indiana games this year. That was last week, at Wisconsin.

2 - Indiana won the last two times it was Iowa's homecoming opponent.

3 - Iowa has had freshmen running backs rush for 100-plus yards in each of the last three games against Indiana. They were Jewel Hampton, Brandon Wegher and Marcus Coker.

6 - Six Big Ten teams are in the BCS Top 25. more than any other conference.

7-7 - Iowa is 7-7 on Oct. 22 games. That includes a 23-5 win over Upper Iowa in 1898 and a 14-0 loss to Colgate in 1938.

8 - Indiana has won eight Big Ten regular-season men's basketball championships since Iowa last had a piece of the title, in 1979.

9 - This is the ninth-straight time Iowa has been favored to beat Indiana, and the seventh time the point spread was double-digits.

10.6 - Iowa linebacker James Morris leads the Big Ten in tackles with 10.6 a game.

12 - Iowa is 12th in the Big Ten in rushing offense with 133.5 yards per game.

12 - Indiana is 12th in the Big Ten in rushing defense, allowing 227.4 yards per game.

12 - Twelve plays have been reviewed by officials in Iowa games this season. Four were changed.

16 - Former Hawkeyes Danan Hughes and Tim Dwight played a combined 16 seasons in the NFL.

21 - Iowa wide receiver Marvin McNutt has 21 career touchdown catches, tying him for the Hawkeyes' all-time lead in that statistic with Hughes and Dwight.

28 - Iowa scored 28 points in the fourth quarter the last time Indiana played at Kinnick Stadium.

36 - Indiana receiver James Hardy had 36 touchdown catches in three seasons (2005-2007), five of them against Iowa.

44 - It's been 44 seasons since Indiana's only Rose Bowl appearance, a 14-3 loss to USC.

44 - Iowa has scored 44 points and allowed 44 points in Big Ten games.

50 - Indiana has a 50 percent success rate in onside kicks, 1-of-2. The rest of the Big Ten is a combined 0-for-4.

59 - Wisconsin scored 59 points against South Dakota. And Indiana.

86 - Iowa had 86 first-downs (29, 29, 28) in its last three games against Indiana.

99 - Oklahoma won 99 games (and lost just 24) from 2002 through 2010, when current Indiana head coach Kevin Wilson was the Sooners' co-offensive coordinator or offensive coordinator.

100 - This is Iowa's 100th homecoming game. Thomas Wolfe was wrong. You can go home again.

138 - Iowa has gone 138 straight games without being shut out.

139 - After today, Iowa will have gone 139 straight games without being shut out.
