Dr. Patrick Hugh Henry, 82, a resident of Iowa City since 2004, died March 11, 2016, of Parkinson's disease at Oaknoll Retirement Residences.
A native of Arkansas, Dr. Henry had a long and distinguished career as a medical teacher and clinical researcher. Following graduation from the University of Arkansas School of Medicine, he trained at Duke University in internal medicine, and then became an investigator at the National Cancer Institute in Maryland for six years. In 1969, he became chief of the University of Missouri School of Medicine's Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology, a post he held for 13 years. He moved to St. Louis in 1982 to become chairman of the Department of Medicine at Mercy Hospital, a post held until his retirement in 2004. Following that, he moved to Iowa City to be near his daughter, Marguerite, and her family.
During his years in Iowa City, he volunteered teaching medical students at the School of Medicine for several years and was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church.
A graveside funeral for the family was held in Iowa City on March 13.
Dr. Henry will be greatly missed by Dr. Suzanne Henry, his wife of 56 years; their daughter, Dr. Marguerite Oetting and her husband, Dr. Tom Oetting of Iowa City, and their children, Drew, Lilli and Blake; their son, Patrick and his wife, Valeria, of Seven Oaks, England, and their daughters, Bella Nina and Alexandra; and their daughter, Chriscinda Henry and her husband, Fabian Lange, and their daughter, Elsa, of Montreal, Canada.
