Donald V. Lewis, 78, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 2 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018, at Central Church of Christ, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 8, 2018, at the church. Burial: 2:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8, 2018, at Bethel Cemetery in Eddyville, Iowa. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Donald was born Aug. 17, 1939, in rural Eddyville, the son of Clifford and Ida (Jones) Lewis. He attended electrical school at Coyne in Chicago, Ill., and worked for 50 years at St. Luke's Hospital in electrical maintenance. He married Mary Proctor on April 28, 1963, at the Union Chapel Church. Donald was a member of the Central Church of Christ. He was the ultimate handyman. Donald was able to fix anything. He enjoyed the challenge of taking things apart to fix them and put them back together. Donald also was a giving man and enjoyed sharing his time to help others.
Donald is survived by his wife, Mary Lewis of Cedar Rapids; children, Tim Lewis of Cedar Rapids, Greg (Deborah) Lewis of Cedar Rapids and Marcy (Bill) Johanningmeier of LaPorte City, Iowa; grandchildren, Trey (Bethany), Courtney, Caleb, Lauren, Emily, Allison, Daniel and one expected one great-grandchild, Zoey; siblings, Dolores Trimble, Delmar (Earlene) Lewis, LaDonna (Ronald) Fisher, Mary Lewis, Evelyn Tangie and Richard (Shirley) Lewis; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Ann; sister, Jean Teno; and his parents, Clifford and Ida.
Memorials may be directed to Bethel Cemetery in Eddyville.
