Richard Rudy Talyat, 62, of Cedar Rapids, died Aug. 2, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center following a long illness. Services: 10 a.m. Monday at All Saints Catholic Church, by the Rev. John R. Flaherty. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Teahen Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. on Monday at the church.
Richard is survived by his wife, Diane; two sons, Brian (Lauri) and Grant (Kerry) of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren, Mitchell, Allison, Lindsey, Megan, Savannah, Emmett and Scarlett; two sisters-in-law, Debra (David) Halvorson and Denise (Harry) Hunt, all of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins, including his favorite cousin, John F. Talyat Jr. of Denver, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; uncle and aunt, Bill and Midge Waite, who helped raise him; and his father- and mother-in-law, Ralph and Velma Gearhart.
Richard was born Aug. 27, 1954, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Rudig and Lula Kinkead Talyat. He graduated from Washington High School in 1973, and attended technical school. Richard married Diane Gearhart on July 24, 1976, at St. Jude Catholic Church. He worked in building maintenance at the Verizon Building for over 20 years and spent the last 3½ years working at the Whirlpool warehouse in North Liberty.
He enjoyed working, and attending concerts and sporting events with his sons. Richard took pride in helping people and would fix anything for anyone. He loved his puppies, Bubba and Buffy, spending time with family, especially attending his grandchildren's activities, and hiding Easter eggs.
