Michael "Mike" Bowen, 66, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away after a long illness on Monday, Jan. 30, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 6, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Pastor Steve Knudson will officiate. Visitation: 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5, at the funeral home. Burial: East Clermont Lutheran Cemetery, Clermont, Iowa, at a later date.
Mike was born on Oct. 4, 1950, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Robert and Lorriane (Wyjack) Bowen. He graduated in 1968 from Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids. On Dec. 4, 1971, he married Elizabeth Ann Bilden at East Clermont Lutheran Church in Clermont, Iowa. Mike was a union sheet metal worker for 15 years for Sheet Workers Local 263. He loved being outdoors with nature. He enjoyed motorcycling, camping, fishing and hunting. Mike also was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan, and loved the time he spent with his family, friends and his dog, Scotty.
Mike is survived by his wife, Liz Bowen of Cedar Rapids; son, Andrew Bowen of Cedar Rapids; granddaughter, Lauren Bowen of Cedar Rapids; sisters-in-law, Cathy Shaheen Bowen of Littleton, Colo., Ruthie (Jerry) Trudo of Cedar Rapids, Brenda (David) Coen of Waynesville, N.C., and Debbie (Noel) Knight of Elgin, Iowa; brothers-in-law, Erling (Mary) Bilden of Elgin, Iowa, and James Bilden of Elgin, Iowa; aunt, Doris Schuessler of Lone Tree, Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews; and his good friend, Charlie Osborn.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Lorriane; brother, Gary Bowen; sisters, Janice Jacoby, Kathy Bowen-Miller and Dixie Bowen; parents-in-law, Tilpher and Deloris Bilden; brother-in-law, Harlan Bilden; and sister-in-law, Marian Russ.
Memorials may be donated to a charity of the donor's choice.
