A 25-year-old Iowa City Man was arrested on Tuesday afternoon for operating while intoxicated, controlled substance violation and possession or distribution without a tax stamp after Iowa City Police say they pulled him over for a traffic violation and found marijuana in his vehicle.
Reports indicate that Altan T. Jackson, also known as “Big O,” of 1313 Marcy Street, was pulled over by an officer after he failed to stop at a stop sign. Upon contact, Jackson appeared very nervous and a K-9 unit was called to the scene to investigate. Officers were then able to locate approximately 445 grams of marijuana inside Jackson's vehicle.
Authorities say that Jackson told officers that the marijuana in his vehicle was mostly for his personal use, that he smoked a lot on a daily basis and that he was high and smoked shortly before driving.
Jackson consented to a drug recognition evaluation, but after officers explained the DRE process to Jackson, he allegedly recanted his statements and said that he was not high. Test results determined that Jackson was impaired and unable to operate a vehicle safely, Iowa City Police said.
Jackson was being held at the Johnson County Jail on a $17,000 cash bond Wednesday morning.
Controlled substance violation and possession or distribution without a tax stamp are class D felonies.
