Schnoebelen, Ronald L. 'Gumby'

Ronald L. “Gumby” Schnoebelen, 53, of Riverside, passed away Monday, March 7, 2011, peacefully after a heroic fight with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services for Ronald will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 11, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside. Father Rich Adam will officiate the services. Burial will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery in Riverside. Casket bearers will be Kenneth “Benny” Waldschmidt, Dwayne “Skip” Slaughter, Jim “Big Jim” Latta, Clarence “Peanut” Tharp, Todd Seaton and Mike Mapel. Honorary casket bearers will be Glen Hoyle, Richard Schnoebelen, Donnie Schnoebelen, Kevin Schnoebelen, Phillip Schnoebelen, Marc Schnoebelen, Monte Pugh and Timothy Fuller. Following the interment at the cemetery, a time of fellowship will be held at Gin's Bar and Grill in Lone Tree. Visitation for Ronald will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 10, at the Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Riverside with a 8 p.m. prayer service.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in memory of Ronald.

Ronald L. Schnoebelen was born on Oct. 31, 1957, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Lester and Martha Elizabeth (Stober) Schnoebelen. He attended St. Mary's Catholic Grade School and graduated from Highland High School in 1976, president of the class. Ron began with King's Material Inc. in 1978 and was promoted to salesman on Dec. 1, 1996. Ron dearly loved his work and it showed through his daily dedication. He enjoyed his “extended family” at King's Material right to the very end.

Ron was a member of the Eagles of Iowa City, a social member of the V.F.W. Post 6414 Riverside and he thrived on watching his favorite teams, the Cubs, the Kansas City Chiefs and Iowa Hawkeye sports.

Ron was united in marriage June 25, 1999, to Beth A. Fuller at the Schnoebelen family farm in rural Riverside.

Ronald will be deeply missed by his wife and best friend, Beth of Riverside; his daughters, Stephanie Schnoebelen of Cedar Rapids, Jennifer Jackson and her husband, Matthew of Downing, Mo., and Jessica Buffington of Riverside; as well as his grandchildren, Allyssia, Jayden, Jace and Ada Beth Jackson.

Ron is also survived by his sister, Jane E. Hoyle and her husband, Glen of Ainsworth; five brothers, Richard J. Schnoebelen and his wife, Janet of Burlington, Donald L. Schnoebelen and his wife, Cindy of Pella, Kevin L. Schnoebelen and his wife, Kathleen of Riverside, Phillip J. Schnoebelen and his wife, Barbara of Riverside, and Marc E. Schnoebelen of Riverside; sisters-in-law, Cindi A. Schnoebelen of Riverside, Tammara J. Pugh and her husband, Monte of Columbus Junction, and Timothy W. Fuller (Tammy Verzi) of Columbus Junction; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and fathers-in-law, M. Chester Fuller of Florida and Albert “Sonnie” Schultz of Columbus Junction.

Ronald was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Duane Schnoebelen.
