Lyle Dean Koutny, 76, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2015, on a farm near Urbana following an apparent heart attack. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 5, at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. Sixth St., Vinton, with the Rev. Sheri Andersen officiating. Interment will be at Urbana Cemetery, with graveside military rites conducted by Walter J. Meyocks American Legion Post 264 and Iowa Military Honors. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.
A memorial fund has been established.
Lyle was born Oct. 13, 1938, near Urbana to Frank J. and Avis "Marie" Koutny, and graduated from Urbana High School. He then received an accounting degree from Upper Iowa College in Fayette.
Lyle was a member of the Urbana Lions Club, Walter J. Meyocks American Legion Post 264 and Benton County Fair board. He served as Polk Township clerk and Kisling Cemetery sexton.
Lyle proudly showed his Belted-Gallaway cattle at the Benton County Fair for many years and was a member of the Iowa Cattlemen's Association.
A caring person, he was always willing to support local blood drives with his donation.
Lyle could be found every morning at the local coffee shop visiting with his many friends.
Lyle truly adored his nieces and their families.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Mary Koutny of Center Point; his nieces, Penny (Brian) Coller of Center Point and Kelly (C.J.) Fahy of Elmhurst, Ill.; his great-nieces and great-nephews, Alexa and Matthew Coller and Molly and Ryan Fahy; and his special friend, Judy Noeller of Vinton.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Larry Koutny.
