Helen "Grandma" Parbs Boyles Franks, 91, of Urbana, passed away Thursday, May 5, 2016, at her home. Memorial Gathering: 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point. Burial: Urbana Cemetery, at a later date.
Survivors include her daughter, Kaye Grimm of Urbana; two grandsons, Brian Grimm and Darren Grimm, both of Urbana; two great-granddaughters, Kay (Kenny) Ginther of Hiawatha and Kristina Grimm (Nick Ruby) of Carlisle; five great-great-grandchildren; two stepsons, Sam (Jan) Franks of Vinton and Elmer (Rhonda) Franks of Glendale, Ariz.; four stepgrandchildren; and several stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; two brothers, Leland and Ray Parbs; sister, Vena Goodwin; son-in-law, Ed Grimm; and granddaughter-in-law, Jacque Manternach.
Helen was born June 9, 1924, the daughter of Theodore and Grace (Kisling) Parbs, in Urbana, Iowa. She attended country school near her home. On July 26, 1945, she was united in marriage to Darwin "Chub" Boyles in Spokane, Wash. Helen married Elmer Franks on Nov. 22, 1985, in Urbana.
Helen worked at Peter Pan Bakery in Cedar Rapids and was a waitress. In 1975, she opened Helen's Cafe in Urbana and ran this for 13 years.
She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and woodworking with Elmer.
