Phelps, William Joseph

William Joseph Phelps, 68, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Family will greet friends from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 30, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City, to be followed by a graveside committal service at Mount Clark Cemetery in Central City.

Bill was born Dec. 17, 1941, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Thomas C. and Marie (Kepler) Phelps. He retired after many years as a truck driver.

Bill is survived by his children, Teresa A. (Okee) Jones, Brian J. (Mary) Phelps and Joanna M. Phelps, all of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Laura Kurth, Lisa and Patrick Osten, Erica, Karen and Daniel Phelps; a great-grandson, Austin Kisling; and siblings, Robert Phelps of Kentucky and Jean (Harold) Hertel of Homestead.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Marie Phelps; son, Christopher L. Phelps; and daughter, Vicky S. Osten.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in Bill's memory.
