Robert J. “Bob” Uhler, Robert J. “Bob” Uhler
Robert J. “Bob” Uhler, 70, of Iowa City, died of injuries received in a tractor accident on Monday, Sept. 7, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial, with military honors, will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in his memory to the Johnson County Humane Society.

Robert James Uhler was born Sept. 6, 1939, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of James and Dorothy (Rupp) Uhler. At the age of 5, he moved with his family to Iowa City, attending Iowa City schools and graduating from City High in 1958. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1962. Bob married Janet Franklin on Feb. 23, 1964. They later divorced.
Bob was very interested in cars and mechanics, spending most of his life in this field. He owned and operated Mall Mobil at the Sycamore Mall from 1969 to 1983. He then moved his business to the Mall Service Center, where he also ran the Iowa City U-Haul Service and Mall Service Instant Green. Bob was a member of the Moose, Eagles and the V.F.W., all in Iowa City.
Bob's family includes his son, Michael Uhler and his fiancee, Brandy Joynes of Iowa City; his daughter, Kristen Uhler of North Liberty; former wife, Janet Lanik (Bruce) of Coralville; his grandchildren, Darian Showalter, Breanna and Jayden Uhler; and his beloved companion, Sammy.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Huff.
