Steenhoek, Richard 'Dick'
Richard “Dick” Steenhoek, 79, of Cedar Rapids, died Jan. 16, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. The Rev. Carroll Brown will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Interment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Betty; daughters, Nancy Schmitt and husband Andy of Springfield, Mo., Cyndie Moffitt and husband C.J. of Cedar Rapids, Kay Jordan and husband Larry of Cedar Rapids, and Pam Hyde of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Jamie Stevenson and husband Ryan, Jodi Moffitt, Shonda Jordan (Dustin), Danielle McKown and husband Gary, Hunter Elvidge, and Skylar Hyde; great-grandchildren, Sophia, Keegan, Jayden, Gary, Gavin and Katelyn; three stepgrandchildren; his dog, Buddy; as well as extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Russell Steenhoek.
Dick was born Aug. 4, 1930, in Jones County, the son of William and Ann (Herr) Steenhoek. He was united in marriage to Betty L. French on Feb. 21, 1953, in Wyoming. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was employed in security at Rockwell Collins from 1961 until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of American Legion Hanford Post 5 and the USS Helena group.
He enjoyed time spent with family, his dog Buddy, and above all his beloved grandchildren.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend who will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
