After a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease), Terry Bowman passed away Thursday, Jan. 1, 2021, at his home.
Terry Dean Bowman was born Dec. 16, 1944, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Dean and Dorothy (Hoskinson) Bowman. He attended Iowa City schools, graduating from City High School with the Class of 1963. Terry married Beverly Schmucker on May 7, 1966. He owned and operated Bowman Excavating and Trucking in Coralville for over 40 years. Terry was a member of the Iowa National Guard, 209th Medical Company (CLR) in Iowa City, Iowa. He served in the Army National Guard for 25 years, retiring with the rank of lieutenant colonel.
His family includes his wife, Beverly; their daughter, Tammy Bowman (Ray Glass); brother and sister-in-law, Ed and Sue Schmucker; sister-in-law, Patricia Bowman; several nieces, nephews and his golden retriever buddy, Mason.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dan Bowman; and his in-laws, Kenneth and Mary Jane Schmucker.
A public visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Private family graveside services will take place later at Oak Hill Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Iowa Chapter of ALS Association or Iowa City Hospice.
